 Space shuttle Atlantis landed this morning at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, concluding a successful mission to resume construction of the International Space Station. The orbiter and six-member STS-115 crew spent a busy 12 days in space. "It's nice to be back and was a great team effort. I think assembly is off to a good start," said Commander Brent Jett upon wheels stop. Touchdown occurred at 5:21 a.m. CDT at KSC's Shuttle Landing Facility. It was the 21st night landing for a space shuttle and the 15th night landing at the Florida spaceport.   [Edited by Robert Pearlman (September 21, 2006).] |

Had a real beautiful view of ISS with 6 person crew flying off the Long Island coast this morning, as Atlantis was coming in for landing at KSC. |

Likewise, a very bright ISS passed directly overhead at JSC this morning, just after landing. It made a great cap to an eventful (early) morning! |

I got up at 5am this morning to watch the landing..Safe return was a fantastic way to start off the day..Welcome home STS 115. |

Robert, would you say with the new solar arrays that were added to the ISS make it significantly brighter than it was before?
It is passing over our area tomorrow morning and I am looking forward to, what I am thinking is, a much brighter ISS. It sure has been a great couple of weeks, it’s good to see NASA "back on their game"!

It sure is..I watched one of the briefings from this morning and they were talking about returning to flying at night possibly as early as this next flight..Will be interesting to see what the next couple of months bring.. [Edited by LoneStarScouter (September 21, 2006).] |
