NASA and Russia confirmed at the Expedition 12 Flight Readiness Review last week that Bill McArthur will have a ride back to Earth next April aboard the same Soyuz that will bring him to the station later this week. Further, at today's Expedition 12 briefing (on-going), NASA confirmed the plan for McArthur to return on Soyuz TMA-7 less the shuttle become available in the Spring. |

I imagine it is highly unlikely NASA will accept no US presence on the ISS so if McArthur comes back on TMA-7 then his replacement is likely to fly up on TMA-8.Not sure what announcements have been made concerning this flight, but I imagine a crew of Turin, Tani and Vittori (Vindogradov has also been suggested as CDR but I think this was when TMA-8 was planned as a taxi flight. He will probably now command TMA-9). The Russians want the ISS crews to stay up longer, but as Turin & Tani have trained as an ISS crew I would imagine TMA-8 would be a straight swap of Turin & Tani for Tokarev & McArthur. Reiter then flies on STS-121 (although he will now be part of the Turin/Tani crew rather than Tokarev/Mcarthur crew) and then all three come home on STS-116 which launches a complete 3-person ISS crew. Just my thoughts...happy to hear other ideas... | |
