Expedition 10 Space Station crew back on Earth (NASA.gov)

Commander and NASA ISS Science Officer Leroy Chiao and Flight Engineer Salizhan Sharipov, the 10th crew of the International Space Station, landed in the steppes of Kazakhstan in their Soyuz spacecraft at 6:08 p.m. EDT Sunday, after more than six months in space.

With them was European Space Agency Astronaut Roberto Vittori of Italy, who launched to the Station with the Expedition 11 crew and spent eight days doing experiments. He was aboard under a contract between ESA and the Russian Federal Space Agency.

The re-entry of the ISS Soyuz 9 spacecraft was flawless. It brought the three spacefarers to a landing about 53 miles northeast of Arkalyk after 192 days, 19 hours and 2 minutes in space for the E10 crew. The recovery team reached the capsule in minutes.

The area was saturated from recent rains and melting winter snow, so the first members of the recovery team to reach the scene decided to fly the crew to Arkalyk to meet with the remaining members of the recovery team. Chiao and Sharipov will spend several weeks in Star City, near Moscow, for debriefing and medical examinations.

They launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan last Oct. 13 at 11:06 p.m. EDT. During their increment they performed two spacewalks, continued station maintenance and did scientific experiments.

Before closing the Soyuz hatches earlier Sunday they said farewell to the Expedition 11 crew, Commander Sergei Krikalev and NASA ISS Science Officer John Phillips. That crew launched with Vittori from Baikonur April 14 at 8:46 p.m. EDT to begin its six-month stay in space.

you are welcome Monica ;-)

maybe your dream will become true some day !!!

here are some additional informations :

the crew of soyuz tma-5 had to work thru some problems with Vittori´s Sokol space suit. but they resolved the issue of the oxigen providing system without considerable influence to the rest of the mission quickly.

comment of soyuz commander Sharipov :

"We thought we were going to have to sit at the station and wait until they brought us a new spacesuit" ;-)))

Hi Suzy,

I want to congratulate you for displaying such a wide info. in your website, you have specially created for Sergei Krikalev, plus all of his pictures you've been searching on the net!, I really appreciate, now my Sergei's picture collection, its rapidly growing with your help... he, he!.

Hey wouldn't be neat?, if WE all Sergei's girly fans, come together and create
a Sergei Krikalev's official website?... lol. I was just guessing, I don't know how could I contribute to this? but if by chance any decision taken, please let me know in advance and please invite me into this new concept! ;-)

Michael,

I believe Segei would be AMAZED, to know about gals, at least in Australia, Mexico and Kuwait, that are HEAD OVER HILLS for him... lol my GOODNESS... this is a CRAZYNESS!!! :-O

Now I wonder what Elena, Serge's wife would think about?, Sergei's girly fan's?... lol well at least it would be nice for me, to see a recent picture of Sergei together with his wife and daughter Olga.

All the best you guys!,

Monica

Michael - I have replied to your e-mail!

Monica - I have been thinking about some sort of fan club for Sergei - maybe a Yahoo group or something??

Does Sergei even know about the Internet (I wonder if he Googles for his name, if he does ) and can they access the Internet from the ISS?

Hi Suzy,

Your idea is good!, but I ignore, if there's any chance the ISS-11 crew, could be authorized to logon to the Internet from space?. I would rather wait, until Sergei's back?. In the meanwhile, we could work on your proposal?.

For all the female fans of Sergeď Krikalev ... Buy the DVD " Out of the Present " it shows his mission onboard the MIR space station ( Up with Soyuz TM-12 in May 1991 ... Down with Soyuz TM-14 in March 1992 )
The onboard images are superb, especially the bits when he's relaxing with Volkov and when they are doing eacht other's hairdo !

Monica ... It's sometimes available via eBay

Another remark on the return of the expedition crew ... I saw the images of CHIAO being taken out of the Soyuz and he was wearing the NEW style SOKOL gloves ( with White fingers & Green fingertops ) other than the well-known white SOKOL gloves with complete black rubber fingers ( worn since Soyuz T-2 in 1980 )
( By The Way: Does anybody has photos of dress preparations of the former expedition crew ... just to see which gloves they wore while pressure testing the suit ;-) )

A couple of years ago I interviewed Anatoli Artsebarksy, and he also gave a talk using "Out of the Present" as part of his presentation. He mentioned that he had been in Chicago with some colleagues and they found the following place selling it on DVD:
www.facets.org

(they specialize in rare movies) and they almost bought the whole stock! I bought my copy from Facets by mail, and they were great. It's an interesting movie.

As for "Space Station" in IMAX, we occasionally still show that movie here at the Science Center ( www.rhfleet.org ) on Friday nights, if you want Sergei 60 feet high and topless, be sure to come by!!

Thanks,

FF

Hello All,

I saw there are some krikalev fans here.
Well I asume there is not much Sergey voice audio files on the web so here is an audio
file wich I recorded via my communications
system. http://pd0rkc.mine.nu/ISSAUDIO/sergey08_08_2005.mp3
In this audio file sergey is doing some health training on the bikes (in ISS).
I asume he talked to a medical doctor at
Russian flight control in Moscow.

Here is the translation:

No well three this maximum.
Yes and on the other bicycle only.
No well minimum simply I ask how much.
I am a litter minimum was three, two more exactly but three this already advisable.
see What will go.
The First minute passed...
The Minute thirty...
Two minutes...
two fourty...

Hello All,

Did you know there is a nice video
from the ISS space station?
Mike Fincke & Gennady Padalka show
you the ISS Space Station inside!
They show you several ISS modules,
and how they eat, drink, and how to
use the toilet in zero gravity.
http://www.amsat.org/amsat/ariss/Video/Expedition9tourwmv.wmv

Remember the video is 152mB, you
can view with the standard windows
media player, or winamp.

Thanks to astronaut Mike Fincke, who
made this video, also this man have
made many contacts with amateur radio
stations over the whole world.
I have spoken Mike 3 times, and here
you can hear one of my contacts with
Mike! http://pd0rkc.mine.nu//ISSAUDIO/pd0rkciss.mp3

With this audio file I want show you
one of the possibilities of amateur
radio. http://www.marexmg.org/hardware/kenwood.html
On this link you can see the radio's
aboard ISS wich they can speak with
us (all legal!).

Welcome on CollectSpace and thank you for these links !

That should be absolutely fantastic to chat on air with the ISS. Amateur Radio and Space is a great subject, I played on Citizen Band when I was young, but my maximum distance was barely 3 miles :-(

Hello All,

Amateur radio is more serious compared to CB.
Also you have to learn and do a exam.
The lowest class is not difficult.
But if someone think to become a amateur for
only talking with astronauts I should say
please do not do it (it's abuse) amateur
radio is much more, and talking with
astronauts is rare.
