Expedition 10 will conduct the first spacewalk of their ISS increment tomorrow, beginning at 1:25 a.m. CST. It will be Chiao's fifth EVA and Sharipov's first.
The spacewalk will be televised and webcast via NASA TV, and if you get up to watch it, you're a better person than I.

Yes but did they do exactly ?
Taking photos of residue around vents ... I fully start to understand the critical comments ISS is getting!

First, the residue photos were just one part of the spacewalk.

They installed new components on the Station's exterior, including a Universal Work Platform (a "space work table") and the German ROCKVISS robotic manipulator demonstrator.

They moved a space exposure experiment to a new location, and installed the Russian Biorisk experiment, which looks at the impact of spaceflight on microorganisms. Per NASA, "eventually information from the experiment could be used to keep us from contaminating other planets with Earth's microorganisms, or perhaps even to protect our own planet."

Second, as unglamorous as "taking photos of residue around vents" may sound to you, the situation with the Elektron oxygen generators is probably one of the most important concerns on the Station currently, so anything that can help resolve those problems is extremely vital.
It may not sound sexy, but this is hugely important to spaceflight beyond LEO. If you're going to be gone from Earth for years, you'd better be darned well sure that you're going to have oxygen the whole time. Experience gained today in operations and maintanence of life support systems will a key element in future exploration.

Third, what did you want them to do? There are going to be routine things going on on ISS. Routine things happen in all spacecraft. Would you have judged an Apollo moon landing mission on how sexy the orbital EVAs were?

Yes, they installed the European instrument set "RokvISS" and about the work platform NASA remains vague ... was is it for ?
Weren't they supposed to prepare the ISS for the arrival of the European Automated Transfer Vehicle ( ATV to boost the orbit & resupply the station )...
Indeed routine & boring ( not exciting the youth among us ) :-(

Don't know that there were any ATV tasks on this EVA, though there were on the last two.

Not sure as to exactly what the transferable Universal Work Platform is, though apparently ROCKVISS was mounted on top of it, for what it's worth.

Sorry the EVA wasn't more entertaining, though I'm not sure amusement was its primary purpose. Perhaps some MTV, instead?
