Someone made a passing reference to Hanger Queens in a recent post and I ran across the term again in Michael Collins's book "Liftoff."

Today marks the third anniversary of Discovery's last return from orbit (STS-105) and it appears at least another six months shall pass before NASA returns to flight. While I have little doubt that the orbiter will basically have been rebuilt bolt by bolt to insure it is perfect for its second return to flight (Discovery also had STS-26), I have started to wonder what risks exist with "hanger queens." Any thoughts out there on the issue?
