I'm looking for some ideas or links to resources. I'm a 3rd grade teacher but I run a science club for 5th graders at my school. I'm planning a chaperoned overnight for the club at the school with a Mars exploration/colonization theme. We will watch the "Roving Mars" video and "The Martian" (which because of the language and the brief nudity will require advance parent permission — I can probably blip past the nudity but I'm not going to mess with the language). The students will also get large sheets of bulletin board paper on which to design (probably in teams of two or three) their own "Martian habitat" after we discuss the requirements one would need (air, water, electricity, shielding, food, recycling, and so on).
Everyone will eventually spend the night in their own emergency shelter (er, tent) in the classrooms.
I would also like to include some sort of game or online activity to help them get thinking in terms of Martian colonies, but so far I haven't come up with much. The resources I've found at the NASA educator page are okay but not really "right." Is anyone aware of any other online resources, activities, ideas or games that you could point me toward? Thanks.
