Last Saturday (June 28th), some of us got together in Guyton, Georgia, to tour Fred and Jackie Karst's home, also known as the "Karstonian Kollection" (I prefer to call it the KASM, or Karstonian Air and Space Museum). We had a great time, and the Karsts were fantastic hosts. There was a bit of trading, although some people forgot to bring their stuff for trading... Sounds like you all had a great time, I wish I could've been there. By the way, Fred K, I have the same T-shirt you're wearing in the photo. |

We had a great time. The ride down and back was fun with John C. driving and Fred B. riding shotgun. The Karstonian is an amazing place. I've been to several major museums that do not measure up, and I'm serious. Cabinet after cabinet, room after room, filled with models, artwork, books, relics, hardware, memorabilia...amazing! The entire house is full of cool stuff. Outside the VAB pump house, the beautiful shuttle sculpture, the restored tractor, the out building/shop full of space stuff...incredible! As John said the Karsts were fantastic hosts and I want to thank Fred and Jackie for a wonderful and unforgettable experience. |

It was a great trip. What a place Fred has. I agree with Gilbert, more exhibits than museums. A big thanks for the hospitality fred and Jackie showed us. Thanks to John for driving us from Newnan. Made it much easier on me to drive there than drive all the to the Savannah area from Birmingham. Plus having company in the car was a big plus. |

Tim, you have an annual pass, but you never use it (and parking is free). It was a fantastic day for Jackie and I, we had real space enthusiasts in the house! (Johnathan you were last and that was a few years ago.) We were able to show the displays and use that language only a few understand, with words like, CSM, LM, ASTP, Skylab, autopen, IUS, PAM... It is nice to see people stand and stare at the large Calle displays and know they get it.
It was great to have a few more eyes on some signatures I had in question, some good and some not but all reviewed and categorized, the trading was good as well. This was a day to remember and I hope one of many to come. Ya'll come back now, ya hear! I could not help but think, as they departed in that three manned vehicle, John was driving and thus the commander, Gilbert had to be the LMP and Fred the CMP. How did Fred become the CMP? He had that long drive by himself after the other two departed. Yep, that's how I see the world. | |
