The 'space age' has seen several new words and phrases enter our language that are associated with space flight. Among the less well known are these from Apollo 9.
  • All vanilla - used by the crew to describe the fact that everything was proceeding as normal. It's worth noting here that the astronauts rarely used 'A-OK'. This was attributed to Shorty Powers and is perhaps better known.

  • Astrokin - used for the first time by the press corps to describe the families and children of the astronauts.
