This evening's BBC Antiques Roadshow included an interesting album of pencil sketches. I was paying only partial attention to the piece which included signed drawings of Field Marshall Montgomery and Churchill to name but two.

The last signature the expert alighted on however was that of Neil Armstrong.

The composition of the pencil drawing clearly dated the piece to post July 1969 but the bold blue signature appeared to be an older pattern and possibly an autopen.

Valued by the expert at £1000 I would be interested to know if any other member spotted it and what they thought of it?

Mmm... ! Watched it on I-player. Without saying the signatures aren't genuine, the thing that sent a few quiet alarm bells tingling in the background was the Churchill signature. From my own experience, I am given to understand that Churchill didn't sign items sent in the post, neither did he sign requests for his signature.

Could be wrong, but would need much greater provenance than given on the show. Simply saying the drawings were sent and returned signed is not good enough in this case.

All times are CT (US)
