My house was broken into on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 in the middle of the day. I returned before the burglars got everything, but they did get a few small pieces from my collection. Please send me a heads up if you see either of these items. The first piece is a Gemini 9 Fliteline medallion. The letter of authenticity was in the bank, but the piece was next to my computer, and when they stole my computer they picked up the piece. The medallion had been turned into a pin (before I owned it). The second piece to get stolen was a Gemini-Agena tieclip: Please let me know if you see the Gemini 9 Fliteline pin or Gemini-Agena tieclip anywhere on eBay etc. Thank you! |

That really stinks. I know how you feel- I had a medallion stolen from my collection. I was fortunate and it was recovered, but it was damaged. I'll keep my eyes open. |

Check local jewelry to cash stores. At least here, they're supposed to get a copy of a person's ID and keep that on file for a certain period of time. Maybe the person thinks it's like a half dollar they can get $20 for, based on the silver content. |

In cleaning up my office, I found the Gemini 9 Fliteline amongst a mess that the burglars left.Unfortunately there is no question the GeminiAgena tie clip (and some Mercury capsule shaped cufflinks) were stolen. Still, it's nice to find something that I thought was ripped off, and has a flown history from the Gemini era (it also has a Schirra LoA in the safe deposit box). |

Something to think about Sy... do you suspect anyone that may know you are a space and numismatic collector? |

There have been a rash of burglaries from Seal Beach to Newport Beach by three crews of young men who prowl nicer neighborhoods. They drop off their crews who then knock on doors to see if anyone is home and then return to "easy" targets. After kicking in front doors or hopping fences and breaking in back doors, they spend a few minutes ransacking your home. A buddy of mine who's a detective said the best way to keep the thieves out of your house is to have a dog that barks when someone knocks. Next, put a sign on your door reading "Day Sleeper... Do Not Disturb" so they think someone is home and finally an alarm sign. These thieves are looking for easy targets and if you make it too difficult for them or if they think they'll get hurt or caught, they'll move to an easy target. |
