Here is an image from the 1967 movie "The Reluctant Astronaut " staring Don Knotts. In the background is SA-500F, the Saturn V Facilities Integration Vehicle used to test facilities at Kennedy Space Center's Launch Complex 39A.

According to what I have read here on collectSPACE and other sites, 500F was on the pad from May 25, 1966 to June 8, 1966 when it was moved back to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) to avoid Hurricane Alma. After that, 500F returned to Pad 39A on June 10 until it was returned to the VAB one last time of October 14 and destacked.

Looking at this image and seeing the dark clouds in the background, I wonder when this part of the movie was filmed. Are these clouds the outskirts of Hurricane Alma? The hurricane center passed by the west coast of Florida. According to the NOAA website "June 9, 1966. Hurricane Alma makes landfall near Apalachicola as a category two hurricane."

The crawler is parked near by as if it just dropped off 500F or was just about to pick it up to return it to the VAB. In a quick search I could not find any other photos of the crawler parked in this location during the 500F's stay at 39A.

Just curious on what day this part of the movie was filmed. I thought that the dark clouds might be an indication of Hurricane Alma, although the clouds might just be a typical Florida summer afternoon thunderstorm.

All times are CT (US)
