I am not sure how many of you know "Astronut" David Houseworth. I just spoke to him by phone, he lives in the town of Washington, Illinois that was devastated by a tornado last night. He and his family are okay.

The fire station that he is a captain at is okay but three of his firefighters lost their homes. He is going to be busy for the next two weeks with the clean up so he will be offline but wanted me to put the word out so that all on cS knew that he was okay.

He will update me if there is anything we can do for him.

I don't know the man, but of course I'm happy that things are okay!

I assume this means his home is okay, too? Of course, the health and welfare of the occupants of the primary issue, but I hope he didn't get much property damages, either!

A good friend of mine rode out a tornado a few years ago, which destroyed the houses in front, back and on each side of his house but didn't touch his. It didn't even turn his trash cans over or even cut off his power. It's amazing how random they can be. My experience with storms is limited to hurricanes and wind storms, where everyone gets pretty much the same experience...

His house survived also. The images of his town have been on the national news - it is devastating.

Good to hear. My cousin lives there as well. We still don't know how bad his damage was, but there was a lot. It is scarey seeing images of the area where you grew up being hit like that when you are so far away. But they feel the same when hurricanes come through our area.

Actually, finally talked to him and their home was a total loss. But no one was home at the time. His upturned car has been seen on the Weather Channel a lot, and he jokes that he is glad he drove his good car to church, so now he is finally rid of the old clunker. Glad his humor survived!

I would like to say thank you to you all at collectSPACE for your nice comments. It was two weeks ago today that the tornado devastated our city. It is now time to try to get back to being normal. The destruction was severe in our city. It will take at least a year or more to get back to rebuilding our city, but we will. The tornado missed my house by approximately a half mile. It is very unfortunate that a lot of people I know have no houses left. We will recover and rebuild our city!

We have been extremely busy at the fire department but it is slowly getting back to normalcy now. In my 21 years of being a firefighter this is the most devastation that I have ever seen in my career!

Once again, I want to say thank you for all nice comments and thoughts and prayers for our city. Thank you.

All times are CT (US)
