Most of the Apollo astronauts are descended from Scotland, the most famous of course is Neil Armstrong. In November 1969, Alan Bean took a piece of Bean tartan to the moon. This is now on display in the Houston's kilt shop in Paisley. In Scotland, we don't just have clan tartans, we have district tartans and even football teams have there own. Any one can design a tartan. Last year, when Dick Gordon came to Glasgow, the kilt shop in Paisley designed a special Apollo 12 tartan. There was an auction to buy it and I managed to win! After a considerable time designing with the help of Dick Gordon and Alan Bean they came up with a brand new tartan.
