On behalf of a collectSPACE reader comes the following question:
What, if any, feature films were shot on location at Cape Canaveral – that is CCAFS – before 1964?
The reader, who is researching this for a book, is discounting movies that used stock footage (of launches or otherwise).

He's aware of the 1965 "Frankenstein Meets the Spacemonster," but assumes the shots of Cocoa Beach and the launch facility are library footage, possibly from NASA.

The earliest films he's been able to identify is John Sturges' "Marooned," shot in 1969, and Robert Altman's "Countdown" (originally titled "Moonshot"), shot in 1966.

Anyone know of an earlier film, and before 1964?

Not a "feature film" but the 1961 four minute mini movie "The Lighthouse That Never Fails" comes to mind.

I did a search on IMDB, which I'm sure they did but for any other readers who may be interested in films shot there. I had no idea my favorite TV show growing up was partially filmed there: Men Into Space.

I wondered about Men Into Space, but wasn t sure. I agree with you it was a great program and a favorite of mine. Too bad we don't have a space program like the one depicted in that tv show!

At least lunar ice has been discovered, as shown in an episode of "Men Into Space." (OK, different circumstances...)
