I won't bore you with the details, but I need a Hawaiian shirt with a NASA theme, I was recently challenged that I wouldn't find something like that for an event coming up.

I've done a lot of searching online and turned up nothing, does anyone know of a vendor who has what I'm looking for? NASA insignia is best, Saturn rockets good as well, but it needs to be space program, not just planets and such.

Dayna Inc. offered a rocket-print Hawaiian-style shirt in 2012. You might contact them to see if they have any remaining stock.
The height of the Space Race with Apollo and other NASA Rockets and Space Craft on 100% cotton with a blue background. The buttons are Pewter style Rockets adding to the whole scheme of this fun shirt!

I found that early in my search. Nope, none are left.

I was really hoping someone might know of a vendor, I would have thought this would be an easy thing to find but turns out it's not at all...

Can you squeeze into a medium? This one features Apollo and the shuttle (and even the NASA logo), and the Buy It Now price is reasonable.

If the people at the event ask how you found one, you could just casually say that Hawaiian shirts have always been big in the space community, and show this photo from STS-26.

This one features rocket launches, astronauts, and a moonscape, but I'm not sure it's historically accurate.

I'd think you could find one. I picked up a NASA bowling shirt a few years ago at KSC gift shop. Where I used to work, it was always "Hawaiian Shirt Friday" and I'd wear it sometimes. I'd get "What a geek" comments too. (Not that it's a BAD thing to get those.. )

Actually, I was a US gov't contractor. It wasn't a written rule, but everyone liked doing it. Sorry, the idea was around long before "Office Space". No TPS reports needed...

Any leads other than what can be found with a simple Google search would be appreciated. I wear a XL, by the way. I don't have a lot of time as I'll need this within a couple of weeks.

The guantlet was thrown down and I have a lot of bragging rights at risk here.

How about this XL Vintage KoKo Island Space Moon Paradise Aloha Shirt available for $32 from Sue & Misty (ShabbyShopGirls) in Dallas-Fort Worth TX.

Has a Command Module and Lunar Surface all in a paradise setting!

Damn you Alfred Shaheen (populariser of Aloha Hawaiian Shirts in the 1950s) for getting me searching on this!

The problem is that the Command Module is ON the lunar surface. It looks like the result of a guidance programmer forgetting to carry the 2.

The theme of the shirt is a fantasy paradise in space, so I guess the designer had the CM not wanting to return home and thus landing in a fictional lunar sea or ocean and washing ashore?!

I truly empathise with the OP - finding a shirt is a lot harder than it seems.

And besides I work at Initrode now - I don't get paid enough to think about these things. In fact I still haven't received my paycheck and someone has borrowed my stapler and if I don't get it back I might just burn the building down. It's MY stapler...!!

If you think you can get into a large T-Shirt? That's the best I can do.

Bought that shirt this week and wore it today to honor the Apollo 11 landing. I wear large, but the xlarge was just fine! Its cool, and the vintage 1970 shirt made me feel like I was when Apollo was flying!

Er, wasn't this thread started by p51 with the express purpose of finding a shirt for p51?

I saw that the vintage 70s shirt I had linked had sold within hours of me posting it. I assumed no cS member would cut in ahead of p51 on this, partly out of basic courtesy and partly because he had stated how hard it was to find one.

p51 did you find a shirt in the end?

Okay, my bad!

I profusely apologize to p51 for my carelessness at not reading over the whole subject material, it was a busy week, and I had been looking for a good Hawaiian shirt as well for a long time. I know its a sorry excuse for being stupid!

I'm not this type of person, it was an accident. I saw the link to the shirt, liked it, and with there only being one... I've had other occasions of waiting before buying online, and regretting not buying, cause it got snatched up quickly.

I'm posting to apologize for being human, and making a mistake. Yes I will be much more careful, I deserve all your fury and anger.

If p51 likes the shirt enough, I only wore it once so far and with a t-shirt underneath, could sell back to him.

My apologizes again to the entire cS community!

Nah, it's all good. The capsule on the beach reference doesn't quite live up to the challenge of me finding and wearing a NASA Hawaiian shirt at the event that is coming up.

Looks like I'm gonna have to take my lumps on this, I thought I'd find a shirt with this theme easily, it never occurred to me that nobody has any now.

So odd, because I have a few other shirts of that style from my Hawaii trips, and I found a WW2 aviation themed one pretty easily to wear to Pearl Harbor.

To answer the earlier question, many of these shirts are oversized, and if so, yeah, I could probably fit into a 'relaxed fit' Large instead. I don't have so much a gut as I do wide shoulders.

All times are CT (US)
