I have always displayed a lot of my collection in my bedroom at my old house but we moved about a year and a half ago and I have only just managed to convince the missus (you know what it's like) to let me display some of my things. Most of my autographs have been removed from the frames and put into folders which have been stored away and the frames have been put in the loft but I have managed to get the models out on display which was my main goal and some autographs anyway hope you like the layout. Great collection Rob, and very nicely displayed too. Can I ask where you got the glass display cabinets as I am looking for something similar. Thanks for sharing. |

Thanks for your replies. The display cabinets are from Ikea and cost £40 each but you have to buy the lights separate for £13 each. The Astronaut Hall Of Fame posters were put up by my missus and to be honest she did a great job but I won't tell her so. |

The posters going up the stairs are the Astronaut Hall Of Fame ones from 2004 to 2009, Six in total, all signed by the inductees and really look great when they are framed plus a couple of other pictures in the same frames. |

As I see in your photos, you have an awesome collection and display. Kudos to your missus letting you display your hobby outside of any "man cave" area. My missus will not allow mine outside my "man cave" because it's too manly. And I'm trying to sell several large framed autographed aviation prints because I don't have the "room" to display them except in a closet. It's better to just make the missus happy. I'm jealous! |

I hear you there. My problem is that I have a room dedicated to my primary hobby (military collecting) and don't have any room to display much of any space stuff I have. There no way in heck my wife will let me put up anything outside of that room because I have not only that room but a lot of the garage as well for my WW2 Jeep and all the old military signs and ammo crates along the one wall.My collection is nowhere near as impressive as Rob's (madon_space's) (or probably anyone else here's, either) but it's disheartening to have some nice items and have almost all of them sitting in a drawer in the toy room where nobody can see them... |

This reminds me that before I got married I was going to display pictures of the 12 Moonwalkers, framed, up the stairwell (just like the pictures of former prime ministers in the stairwell of 10, Downing Street). My mistake was not doing this before getting married. When I mentioned my plan to my new bride, she flashed me a lovely smile and said: "We'll not be doing that." The compromises we have to make for marital harmony! |

Wouldn't have made any difference probably. It would have been, "Take them down," versus, "You're not putting them up." Just like how most men wind up with none of the furniture they had before they were married once they tie the knot, most dreams of decoration go by the wayside.I won't name names, but several years ago I was told by someone who had been awarded the Medal of Honor at the end of WW2 that when he got married several years later, his new wife took one look at the framed certificate that went with the medal which also included the photo of President Truman placing it over his neck and said, "This doesn't go with the rest of the house, you need to find a place somewhere else to store it." And to hear him say it, he DID put it away in a closet and didn't even look it at for many years. |

Rob (Madon_space), your collection is awesome! It's tastefully and artfully presented. It looks so much better than a bunch of over-priced, color-coordinated, soul-less accessories from some high-end decorating/design house. |

Although never married I have my own story similar to those above. A woman I was dating said about my collection - "you need a basement so you can put all this stuff down there". I don't think so.Here's a photo of my Apollo room. I also have two Shuttle rooms. And no wife. |

To get around that problem, I finally opted to just loan some of my best items to a local air and space museum for a few years. Currently I'm living in an apartment for college so I could use some extra space. I actually just talked to them about it yesterday, and they were extremely excited as they stated that their air and space museum needs more space items. Currently the only space-related item is a Shuttle Training Aircraft. |

You have to go where your heart is. What we need is a SPACE Match.com. Your photos look like they were professionally framed. I am often surprised to see collectors selling rare space items on TV shows that are not framed or protected in any way. NOTE: If you do put some of your collectibles in the basement, never place them directly on the floor because of the threat of flooding. Even 1 inch of water can destroy collectibles. |

I understand fully. After years of moving around and renting, I finally have a house - but that doesn't mean I have the room to display everything! The spare bedroom is also the office and there I've hung a few choice pieces: a signed Haise and Lovell alighting on the recovery carrier, a prize won from People Magazine; Roy Bridges presenting Avery Brooks with an award, signed by both; a commercial crew poster picked up at Udvar-Hazy, and two more framed and signed items: Charles Brady to the Marauders Navy squadron, a matted photo of the landing of STS-71; and a Joe Engle inscribed (not to me) matted photo of a shuttle launch, on Engle's retirement. I also have a toy Atlantis shuttle and a Snoopy astronaut bank in that room. |

Thought of doing this once with some of my stuff then realised with three cats in 'free orbit' about the house it would be just asking for trouble... |

I can see where you are coming from Steve it would end up being a CATastrophy if anything happened. Sorry had two get that one in it is Friday after all.I have two young boys aged 2 and 5 and I panic every time they go near the glass stands for there safety and for my models but I hate the thought of them being boxed away in the loft and not being able to enjoy them.

Very nice! I have so many items I don't have enough wall space to do something like this. I have it in two man caves in my basement. I have it arranged as best I can. Again, very well done! |

Thanks for your reply. I forgot about the bears in my collection as these are stored away in the loft but glad you liked them. |

This gives me the opportunity to clarify something that I couldn't quite work out in 1969. Rob (Madon_Space) has a painted Saturn V model. It looks like the 1:144 Airfix model, like the one I got for Christmas in 1969 and still have in my study to this day. How are you supposed to paint black stripes on the model? The paint runs up and down the fine vertical grooves on the interstage units. My solution was to use shiny black plastic adhesive tape, but it's almost impossible to do the SII/SIVB interstage properly. My best 1969 effort (amazingly) is still attached, exactly as I applied the tape in 1969, but it doesn't look just quite right. Any ideas? |

Holographic Space Shuttle picture this is really cool as it changes from launchpad to flight depending on which way you stand:Cape Winds signed by the artist print: These were not Christmas presents but have only just managed to now display them on the wall. The missus has got to say no at some point with all this stuff being displayed. |

I have been wanting to make my own website for a long time and have finally got round to doing it.I did have a web page account but I have reached my usage limit and didn't want to pay just to be able to view it for another year without ever being able to update it with any new items I get, so that was the main reason for the new site. Please have a look and tell me what you think but please be gentle with me! |

Very nice indeed! Website is good too. I only have one reservation about things like this. Call me paranoid, but some of us have valuable items and in some cases, considerable sums invested in our "hobby". My concern is that posting out on the web pictures of what we have seems to invite problems, shall we say. How do we protect these items? For me it's pretty simple. For the most part, I'm limited to patches and almost all of those are stored in boxes in a closet. And insured (although admittedly, not for their whole value at this point). It would be interesting to hear how others have safeguarded their collections. |

Thanks for the comments so far about my new Website much appreciated.I recently made the stupid mistake of including my full address on my Website which was then highlighted to me by a good fellow collectSPACE'r about the danger in doing that, I have since removed it. If I had left it on then I would have had concerns about my items being safe but now I don't have any concerns about this. This is just my opinion and would also like to see what others think. Apart from my family I haven't achieved much in my life other than my space collection so I guess I am just really proud of it and like to show people plus I like my new website of course. |
