For those in the dark, I'm currently living in a Red Cross shelter due to my entire town being evacuated last Friday. The forest fire which is the cause of this has grown to cover over 118 square miles as of last night's IR air pass.

900 fire fighters involved from across America, 50 engines, 10 tankers, 9 helicopters, 4 heavy planes, 3 light planes. It's a war... 0% containment, they feel it'll burn for months more.

Considering what we're up against it's going pretty well. The local Amish, Mennonite communities, and others are feeding us very well... providing over 700 meals a day at my shelter alone, great food, too. The Red Cross is providing so much help it's hard to comprehend how just lucky we are.

These hotshot firefighters ROCK! A fire of this magnitude and to date only one picnic table lost to the fire! No houses or businesses lost...even though dozens of homes along the Rio Grande between Creede and Lake City had 360 degree fire envelopment at their door steps.

We're told there's a buncha pretty PINK cabins out there now (fire retardant applied from the air)... but they still stand undamaged.

They don't expect this fire to go out until this fall and will only cool down after the 1st heavy snowfall.

No word on when we'll be allowed back home, could be as little as a few days or could be many weeks... only the fire can decide that question.

One last thought — God Bless the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Amish, the Mennonites, the Baptists, and the rest of the countless volunteers who are making life bearable for us evacuates and supporting all the fire fighters.
