Can we have a show of hands here on collectSPACE of how many people on here are members of the British Interplanetary Society?I've been buying "Spaceflight" as loose issues since 1976, member since 1998, Fellow since 2009. My son is the youngest ever BIS-member and he hopes to become the oldest BIS-member ever by 2061 (when Halley's comet comes back). |

I have been a Fellow for many years, although dues for U.S. members have been pricey, especially since we cannot participate in the meetings at BIS Headquarters in London. However, Spaceflight, the monthly BIS publication, is outstanding. |

I've been a member (later a Fellow) of the Society since 1971. Two things encouraged me to join. First, I saw some actual samples of moon rock (on display in London). Second, the address of the Society was published in a little collectors' Space booklet issued by Brooke Bond Tea. There were actually two versions of this, a British version and a Canadian version. |

In my days of flying as cabin crew with Qantas I used to travel to London quite regularly and would catch the Tube over to BIS headquarters to pick up the most recent issues of "Spaceflight." When Rex Hall was elected President of the BIS and with retirement looming for me, he convinced me to become a member so that I could continue to receive (and write for) the magazine. So yes, count me in. |

Been a member for over a year now. Biggest regret - not having joined years ago. Not easy to get to meetings, but 'Spaceflight' makes membership highly worthwhile. |

I, too, am a member of the British Interplanetary Society. I was a member starting in 1987 and then again in 2000. The only regret I have is that the membership for U.S. members is very EXPENSIVE! Thank you. |

I buy a membership for a friend in Russia as a gift. I would hope some others could do so as well as a son.Philip's son in 60 years will break a record. On a recent anniversary we had a number of members who had joined 50 years ago. |

I have been a paid up member (before that I used to buy spaceflight when it sporadically appeared through the newsagents). My son has been a member and my daughter currently is. |

This year the British Interplanetary Society is celebrating its 80th birthday! Moreover, the BIS is looking to establish international branches, besides their regional UK groups. The Italians were first. |

I'm not sure why I haven't posted on this thread before. I have been a member of the BIS since 1971 (I had just turned 16) and a Fellow for about the last 20 years. The rules of eligibility for a fellowship change over the years. I suspect I am only eligible nowadays because I'm already a Fellow! |
