A 12 year old girl has sent her Hello Kitty doll for a very interesting ride... Goodbye Kitty.
It’s a bird. It’s a plane. No, it’s Hello Kitty.

That’s what a seventh grade student from California had in mind when she came up with her dream science project: sending a Hello Kitty doll her dad brought back from a business trip in Japan into space.

Lauren Rojas, a 12-year-old from Antioch, Calif., got the idea after seeing a television commercial in which a balloon was launched into the sky. She thought she could do the same with her Hello Kitty doll. She would test air pressure and temperature at high altitude for her school’s science fair.

You go girl! She's the kind of person NASA needs.

From NBC News:
The package fell back to Earth and landed 47 miles (75 kilometers) from the launch site, 50 feet up in the branches of a tree. Which is an apt place for a wayward kitty to end up.

Well done! It's hard to believe Hello Kitty saw some sights that most of us will not see with our own eyes in our lifetimes.

Yeah, but that doesn't say if she actually got it back or not...

Well, you see Kitty in the tree and the video cameras have recorded the moment. Obviously she retrieved the video cameras since the recordings are posted on YouTube. Thus, I would be led to believe that since she recovered the cameras, she also recovered Ms. Kitty.

I think it's a good time to remember Felix, the moggie that actually made a trip to the edge of space aboard a French rocket.
