San Diego Air & Space Museum release
Adam Ant at the San Diego Air & Space Museum

IT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT... After playing a sold out show at 4th and B as part of his first US tour in 17 years, legendary pop icon and Grammy nominee Adam Ant visited the San Diego Air & Space Museum to see the spacecraft Gumdrop, from the 1969 Apollo 9 space mission that inspired Adam's 1985 hit song "Apollo 9" from his "Vive Le Rock" album. The goal of the mission was to test the Apollo spacecraft and space suits in preparation for the ultimate goal of landing on the moon.

Adam visited the museum, chatted with fans and posed for photos during a day off from the US leg of "The Blueblack Hussar" tour. With his band, The Good, The Mad and the Lovely Posse, Adam is a playing a 22-city tour in support of his upcoming album "Adam Ant is The Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner's Daughter".

Is that really Adam Ant or Francis in disguise?

It's really Adam Ant - who turned out to be quite the space history buff. In the car, he started telling me stories of Gus Grissom and the Liberty Bell 7 sinking. He was wearing an Apollo-Soyuz Omega watch. He also reminded me he was wearing a number of space patches on his jacket when he played at Live Aid in 1985. He was an extremely pleasant guy to talk with, and we spent about an hour at the Apollo 9 spacecraft talking about the mission and other space stuff. He'd never seen Apollo 9 before, despite his hit song of the same name, so this was fun for us all!

That's really neat, Francis.

After your post, I actually looked Adam Ant up on YouTube at the Live Aid '85 show and sure enough, he's wearing mission patches!
