Did anyone catch the reference to Gene Cernan on last night's Modern Family episode?

The father used the story of Cernan writing his daughter's initials in the moon's dust to illustrate why "dads everywhere hate Eugene Cernan."

Okay, can someone clear this up for me? I guess I could have asked at the autograph show last November!

I thought Cernan only wished he had written his daughter's initials because he did not actually have the time to do it.

Yes, I did see Modern Family last night and I thought it was great.

And Yes, Gene did etch Tracy's initials on the lunar surface at the end of the mission. He only wished that he had etched them at Tracy's Rock.

As soon as he said "All dads hate Gene Cernan," it grabbed my attention. Then I remembered why. I think it was cute that he did the same thing on the diner sign.

I am assuming there were no pictures taken of the initials either due to lack of time or the fact that it was a private moment that did not require a photo.

Loved this episode. I was really touched by Phil's gesture outside the diner. It's nice to see space references on TV.

I saw the episode last week in the UK, I did wonder where he was going with it at first but I thought it was quite a clever line in the end!

All times are CT (US)
