From Wikipedia: Richard Burton Matheson (February 20, 1926 - June 23, 2013) was an American author and screenwriter, primarily in the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres. He is perhaps best known as the author of "The Shrinking Man," "Hell House," "What Dreams May Come," "Bid Time Return" (filmed as "Somewhere in Time"), "A Stir of Echoes," and "I Am Legend," all of which have been adapted as major motion pictures, the last at least three times. Matheson also wrote numerous television episodes of "The Twilight Zone" for Rod Serling, including "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" and "Steel". He later adapted his 1971 short story "Duel" as a screenplay which was promptly directed by a young Steven Spielberg, for the TV movie of the same name. |

Bradbury last year, Jack Vance a few days ago, and now Richard Matheson. The old SF/Horror masters are dropping like flies. His novel I Am Legend is one of the scariest books ever. Nightmare at 20,000 Feet and several other TZ episodes, The Shrinking Man, Somewhere in Time...a true legend has left us. . |

Nobody lives forever, but I'm really sorry to hear this. The name Richard Matheson was, for many of us, synonymous with a highly entertaining fusion of science fiction and horror. "The Incredible Shrinking Man" (based on his novel 'The Shrinking Man') was one of the best sci-fi films of the 1950s and I make a point of watching it every few years. "The Omega Man" with Charlton Heston, although not a particularly close adaptation of 'I Am Legend', is one of my all-time favourite films. Gone but not forgotten... his work will continue to entertain for many years to come. |

Sad to hear this. He also wrote the pilots to one of my favorite TV series's The Night Stalker with Darren McGavin. Truly a legend. |
