Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and Star Trek actress ("Nurse Chapel", "Lwaxana Troi" and the voice of just about every Federation computer), passed away at age 76, shares her her website.
Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away this morning, December 18, 2008, at 12:27 AM in her Bel Air home. She died peacefully, in her sleep, and was surrounded by family and loved ones.
In addition to her work in television and the movies, Majel Barrett was an outspoken supporter of NASA, serving on the National Space Society's Board of Directors and later, its Board of Governors.

As a young west coast fan, I served as Gene and Majel's go-fer at the Equicon in 1975. They were giants...

As I lost my own Dad last Friday, I understand how their family feels right now. My heart goes out to Eugene and the rest of the Roddenberry's.

"Honors"...

A very fitting photo at the top.

I met Mrs. Roddenberry at an autograph show years ago. Though she only played a space traveler on Star Trek Mrs. Roddenberry was every bit as pleasant and sincere as the real ones whom many of us have had the pleasure of meeting.

Roddenberry.com release
Gene & Majel Barrett Roddenberry Ashes To Ship Into Space

Majel Barrett Roddenberry, the "First Lady of Star Trek," was much beloved by Star Trek fans the world over. In addition to the many Star Trek roles she played - the second-in-command in the Star Trek pilot "The Cage," Nurse Christine Chapel in the original series, the voice of the Enterprise's computer, Lwaxana Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation - she was the spouse and creative partner of Star Trek founder Gene Roddenberry.

Quote from Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry II

"I am pleased to announce today that we have planned a very compelling future memorial service for my mother and father."

"Fulfilling a pledge made to Majel in 1995, Celestis, Inc. will launch my mother and my father together, side-by-side, on an infinite journey into deep space aboard their Voyager Memorial Spaceflight Service."

"The spacecraft is currently planned for launch in 2012 and it will carry their spirits, their memories, and the message of their life's work into the cosmos."

"I want to thank Celestis for offering this service to humanity and for making it possible to fulfill Majel's request."

While Majel was "The First Lady of Star Trek," she was also one of the first people to look to Celestis to fly their remains eternally towards the heavens. Indeed, she played a key role in the company's first flight. In 1997, Majel looked to Celestis to fly a portion of Gene Roddenberry's remains towards the cosmos on Celestis' first memorial spaceflight, The Founders Flight. Celestis will eternally unite Gene and Majel, flying a portion of their remains together into orbit.

Celestis Memorial Spaceflights reflect the spirit of adventure and the quest to explore always present in Star Trek. As the pioneer and global leader in Memorial Spaceflight, we were deeply honored to fly Gene Roddenberry - and Star Trek actor James Doohan - on previous missions. Now, we look forward to fulfilling Majel Roddenberry's wish by launching Gene and Majel on their own, personal star trek... deep into the final frontier.

I'm a little confused here. Supposedly Gene's remains already were sent into space? Now it's his and her ashes being sent to "where no man has gone before?"

Also, have any of the children of Lucille Ball been contacted as to send a few of her ashes into space as well, because none of us would be discussing this if she didn't approve of having "Star Trek" on the air in the first place?
