The Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kitty Hawk, NC has announced its intended release of a series of items that the national park will use as a means to construct a larger, permanent museum near the base of the memorial. The center piece of the limited edition offerings will be a copy of the photo of Orville Wright making the first powered flight on December 17, 1903 with the signatures of Chuck Yeager, John Glenn and Neil Armstrong along the base of the photo. The Department of the Interior, which runs the park, has announced that each 16x20 photo will be sold for $500.The Department of the Interior expects to release a list of its entire group of collective items by June 21 and will begin taking orders this summer. The Department anticipates that it will limit the number of signed photos to 1903 and will restrict purchases by any one individual to five. Another aspect of the release will be a series of coins reflecting events in the history of flight. Alas No. Happy April 1. |

O.K., this on hurt. I was actually Googling "Wright Brothers National Memorial Armstrong Signing" to look for details. This being April 1 never occurred to me. I was actually getting mad at you WAWalsh for passing on false information.Very nicely done. |

It really would be a nice item. For those who do not have it, there is some basis in fact (very slight) on this. There is a two DVD set entitled "Kitty Hawk" with John Glenn and Neil Armstrong giving voice to Orville and Wilbur Wright. |
