"Saturday Night Live" writers Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell have been hired by Disney to pen the script for a remake of the 1986 movie "SpaceCamp," reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The 1980s teen space adventure is getting relaunched for the 21st century for Disney+, Disney's streaming service.

John Rickard, whose credits include "Rampage" and "Horrible Bosses," is producing the project that is being developed by Disney's live-action film division.

If they're planning to do a remake of "SpaceCamp," what will be the space vehicle?

In my opinion, it wouldn't be the space shuttles, for they are officially retired.

No details about the plot have been released (as the script has yet to be written).

The original movie led you to think they were all going to the Space Camp at Kennedy (otherwise that was a long commute from Huntsville on two occasions in the film).

I can't help but wonder if this new film will have a similar concept and if so, if it'll take part back in the 80s or today. As nobody's flown from Kennedy in almost a decade, I wonder if they'd show the campers strapping into a SLS and suddenly going for a ride?

Without the (admittedly ridiculous) premise of the kids being launched into space, the movie wouldn't hold the same ideas as the original.

I just have three hopes for this:

  1. It's entertaining
  2. It's filmed at Huntsville
  3. It's not written or acted like "Space Warriors"...

Perhaps, or maybe strapping into Dragon or Starliner during a hot fire test. With the script in development now, this remake (if greenlit) may not stream until 2021.

All times are CT (US)
