We have been watching and taping Ken Burns' PBS documentary "The War" about World War II. It's a seven day 15 hour documentary on PBS Television. Like everything he has done, including Baseball and the Civil War, it is outstanding! We have learned so much about the Second World War. I would love to see Ken Burns do a documentary on Space Flight or Man in Space. I think he would do a wonderful job!!

Funny, I was thinking the exact same thing. I recently also watched his "BaseBall" documentary, as well as a shorter one he did about Frank Lloyd Wright, and they really are very well done. He'd do a great job, I'm sure.

Well, let's see: Mercury, Gemini, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, Space Shuttle, International Space Station, unmanned planetary missions, and the engineers and scientists behind all of that, to say nothing of the other astronauts, etc.

I'm told "In The Shadow of the Moon" is a fine film, but it's not the be all and end all of space documentaries, nor do I believe that David Sington intended it to be. In fact, it's not even the be all and end all of Apollo documentaries, given how much of the program it doesn't (nor set out to) cover.

Agreed, Robert. I think the documentary is a wonderful and engaging introduction to the subject for the general public. It's not, and I don't think was intended to be, a Burns-style exploration. You'd be hard pressed to know that Apollos 9 and 10 ever existed, watching the documentary, as the story focuses elsewhere.

Of course, there has already been a Ken-Burns-style spoof documentary about the space program...
