Can anyone take a guess on the significance of these numbers in relation to the Apollo astronauts? (Just for fun). |

I'll take a shot at it ...."9" is the number of Apollo missions to the moon and "12" for the number of moonwalkers. 24 has me scratching my head. Mike |

Well, I know it cost $24 million to put Armstrong on the moon. I'm only guessing here, but was that the number of astronauts gathered together one day and told officially that the first crew to land on the moon was sitting in the room?Colin |

That was too easy for you guys. I was thinking of the number of moon walkers alive, number of moonwalkers, and the number of men who have left earth orbit and circled the moon. |

OK .... I'll throw one back to you guys. One Apollo crew achieved during the course of their careers a feat no other Apollo crew could collectively match. Which crew and what achievement ?? |

While it sounds like you have something specific in mind, I will venture to throw out the records that Apollo 10 flew the fastest, and Apollo 13 flew the farthest from Earth...------------------ Kind Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! http://home.earthlink.net/~aztecdoug/ |

.... and just in case someone else thinks the response is A10 given all crew members commanded their own flights (a unique record) that's not the answer I was looking for. |

Nope .... if it helps, in my question the word "careers" refers exclusively to their time at NASA ... |

The second question is a bit open-ended. Apollo 10 was the only full crew where each member flew a subsequent mission. |

Possibly Apollo 12, with the cumulative spaceflight duration record?Or Apollo 10, with a cumulative distance record? ------------------ http://allthese worlds.hatbag.net/space.php "America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972 |

Okay, I was figuring this last night, but I was missing the key... Apollo 12, they all did EVAs, and not just walking on the Moon but floating in zero G EVAs....Pete on Skylab 2 Alan on Skylab 3 Richard on GT-11 ------------------ Kind Regards Douglas Henry Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby! http://home.earthlink.net/~aztecdoug/ [This message has been edited by Aztecdoug (edited July 06, 2005).] |

Isn't is true that Bill Anders holds (held in, hint) a unique record? |

Noah & Adam,Both very true, but not what I had in mind. The records relate to their flights, and aren't linked in any way. As for Bill 'The Brown Eyed Monster' Anders... Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |

The APOLLO 10 crew have another unique claim to fame: no other Apollo crew had five previous missions to their credit (Stafford: 2; Young: 2; Cernan: 1). |
