Later tonight (wed 22/6/05) we should see the Moon visually appear much much larger than it usually does from just after 1045pm onward . Times will vary across the UK. Look south to south west. If its a clear night you should not really miss it - its that big probably reddish tinged orb we call The Moon !

The reason is an 'optical illusion' caused by it appearing fairly close to the viewers horizon and the atmosphere causing magnification .

Unfortunately didn't get see it since too low on horizon from my vantage :-(

I manage to see the moon rise last night,it looked great it was just as big setting top the west in the early hours of the morning when I started work.
On the solar side of thing I was going to make a trip up to Leek in Staffordshire on the 21st to see if it was possible to see the double sunset, Have you ever seen it Phill I know Leek is up your neck of the woods in Staffs.
I coudn't go in the end as the car was playing up ( maybe next year ) all the best Ian
