Hi all,Looks like my wife and i will be visiting Palm Springs,CA this summer. Anyone got any suggestions/reccomendations of places to see and good restaurants etc Any info always welsome from my friends across the pond Best wishes from Scotland

The air museum there is interesting, and often has astronaut-signed books in the store from people who have dropped by. Summertime is a bit hot for most things, but the Indian Canyons overseen by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians are beautiful palm-tree-lined hiking trails with waterfalls, etc. The Palm Springs Tram is a cable car which takes visitors up to the top of a nearby huge mountain. It can be baking in the desert valley below, but there can be snow in the pine forests at the top. Incredible views too, of course. Joshua Tree national park is a short drive away, and a magical place. Good views from some lookouts there of the San Andreas fault cutting across the desert floor. Hope this helps, FF |

The tram, definately. And do some hiking at the top.It's really spectacular in the Spring...it's 80 degrees on the desert floor; you go up to the top at 8,000 feet and its 20 degrees outside and there is half a foot of snow on the ground. |

Thanks guys,The air museum will definately be a must for me. I like the sound of the cable car also, will be good to get up the Mtn's. I will check out the web for other things, but i always find its great to get ideas from people who have been there. I reckon a drive to San Diego will be on the cards too Cheers

The Palm Springs Air Museum is really nice. The Docents are top notch too. Definitely take the time to chat with them.
http://www.air-museum.org/ Check their calendar, somtimes they have great speakers. Also, a little ways West of Palm Springs on the I-10 is one of those Indian Casino's and some outlet stores. I have never stopped since I am usually in a rush to get to the Museum or home, but they are right there off the North side of the freeway. There is also a big windmill farm out there West of Palm Springs too. I doubt if they offer tours, but it is certainly a sight to see from the freeway. ------------------

On that same turnoff (for the Morongo tribal reservation) is Hadley's, a great place to get a date shake (a good special of the region) if you are making that drive. Also there are the big concrete dinosaurs that are in many movies, videos etc. Not necessarily worth a trip out there specially, but if you are driving to Palm Springs from LA it's a nice stopoff. They used to do tours of the wind farms, but they were very pricey, and you can pretty much see everything from the freeway anyway. FF |
