For a first space auction from this company, during a recession, during a war, a couple of days before taxes are due, without internet bidding...

I find these to be quite impressive prices.

There was some good prices to be had. The top pieces either sold high or did sell at all.

It was nice to see the pieces close up.

Larry - any information on the reserves you heard ???

Otherwise agree, fairly good prices in those days (and considering many collectors including me haven't received the catalog in time...)

Just got back into Boston today. Left New York early this morning, so I could beat the traffic.

The reserves were hard to figure. But on the flown items (or big ticket items), I think they used the low number of the range listed in the catalogue. The other smaller lots varied and it was hard to tell.

Robert and I discussed it back at my hotel room as he was downloading the prices on to Collectspace. Robert will put a more complete analysis up on the board sometime today, when he wakes up. He was at the NASM John Young lecture, then caught the 3AM train from Washington to get to New York at 7AM. Robert then took a cab to my hotel, we went out to breakfast and then to the gallery. By the time Robert left my hotel at 10:30PM last night he had been up for over 24 hours.

There were many lots that were passes, but a lot of them were books that didn't sell. Overall, I think Swann did an excellent job in putting the auction together. I asked the auctioneer how he felt about the auction and he said it was "stellar." Nicko (the auctioneer) also felt there would be another space auction next year. He said more flown patches, less books. He ran the auction extremely well to the point of being funny and encouraging some light audience partipation.

Now consider that it is a down economy, the results can only go up in the future. Now is the time to buy, buy, buy!

Nice meeting you Larry, and Robert again.

I thought some of the prices were way way over what the item was worth. Including the highlighted item on the homepage. I would suspect that some of the bidders may be those without access to the internet?

It was very nice to sit with you at the auction.

As a matter of fact, we met several Collectspace devotees at the auction. Many had success at the auction.

I also met Mike, a firefighter who sent caps and a tee shirts to Buzz went he was signing at Kim Poor's last year. Mike showed me some photos of him working at ground zero. He also picked up some crew signed photos at very good prices.

It was fun to be down in the Big Apple.

But, the writer assumes I'm happy about the prices brought at this auction. I suppose one would assume that my use of the word "impressive" would indicate I'm pleased. But, I'm a new collector. I lost out on a few things that I hoped to get because the prices went as high as they did. I want to add to my collection not see prices climb to where I can't afford new items. Do we want prices to skyrocket? (pardon the pun) Is that good news?
