I have returned from the STS-107 launch. A beauty, right on time. This was my third launch, and all three were from the press site. Ironically, I found that security was not that tight. Not once was I checked for anything. The press site was a little mroe crowded than usual but not packed; I guess all the media were over photographing the 300 Israeli delegates at the VIP site!
Beautiful clear day, bright sun made for very white smoke. The flame I found to be very bright, and my friend, a veteran of 23 launches, says it was the brightest one he's seen (daytime). I guess it was due to the clear day!
Finally I got what I set out to do: after STS-109, my last launch, I said that next time I would a) make sure I got good photos, and b) make sure I watched with my eyes and soaked it all in. I pulled both of very well, and come home very happy and satisfied!
