Hello,

I'm trying to make plans to take the family to a Shuttle launch. Should I purchase the "Launch & Admission Ticket Package"? I really don't care to have the admission tickets as we've been to the Cape several times. We just want the very best viewing of a launch. What are my other options? Is there any way to get to the VIP viewing section without purchasing this package?

Thanks!

Ricky

I saw STS 109 launch from the saturn 5 area and it was great. Buy the ticket so that you can get on the park. Just be prepared to wait in line.

I think one of the best viewpoints is space Park at Titusville.

Its free, good view across Indian River and spectacular if its a clear night launch.
There's usually several local ex-NASA contractors on hand with shortwave radios and even TV relaying the NASA comemntaries and a jolly good show is had by all :-))

Your kids - should they get bored (!!) - have a wide area in which to play failry safe. There's toilets nearby at park entrance - a big plus point. And you could take your own food, drink etc.

It is worth it to purchase the ticket. It takes you to the NASA causeway, which is 6 miles from pad A, 7 from B. Titusville/Space View Park is 11 miles a way. They are both nice views, across water to the launch pad.

Many have found my launch guide helpful, you might want to read it. It is "How to see a launch" at the right:
http://www.geocities.com/ovcolumbia/totaleclipse.html

The next launch, the visitors center is back to $15, so I think it is certainly worth it to get five miles closer!

Unless you know of a way to get a VIP pass, you cannot purchase tickets to see it there.

If you have more questions, just ask.

By the way, if you purchase the launch ticket, do it ONLINe at www.ksctickets.com

You can buy the launch ticket alone for 15$, as opposed to the 40$ package. If you call them on the phone to order, they will tell you that if you want the ticket alone you can't order on the phone, only online.

So, how do you keep getting into the VIP area to take your cool photos?

I have not yet seen a launch at the vip site. Saw all three launches from the press site; with my school newspaper.
