While watching the third EVA of Apollo 16 I think I noticed something that looked strange: it seemed that commander John Young and lunar module pilot Charlie Duke had swapped at least the upper parts of their portable life support system (PLSS, or maybe the full PLSS) for this EVA.

In "normal" configuration, aside of red stripes on the helmet, hands and legs, the commander's spacesuit also had two parallel red stripes on the top and back part of the PLSS. And this is the case for EVA1 and EVA2.

However, during EVA3, the PLSS with red stripes was worn by Duke, while the top of the PLSS of Young's spacesuit (still with red stripes on the helmet, hands and legs) had no stripes at all.

Does anybody know why? Thank you!
