Has anyone ever seen EVA practice Hasselblad camera pictures? I have seen pictures of EVA training where the astronauts had the cameras but have never seen any taken by those cameras during training. |

Is it possible that there wasn't any film in the cameras? |

I cannot believe that there were no practice photos taken during EVA training. |

It does seem reasonable they took some practice shots, especially to get used to not having a viewfinder, but why would they have been saved? |

It may be the case that images taken during EVA training have never been shared or released to public, the fate of such images may be unknown. Additionally, the "camera" used during some EVA training was sometimes a mockup, not the real thing. Astronauts did undergo photography training and some amazing results came from the Apollo program. There were also many poor quality images that were never printed or released.

At a recent talk, Charlie Duke mentioned that he had on loan an EVA Hasselblad that he used to take pictures at home to practice with. No idea what happened to the pictures as that question wasn’t asked. |

I interviewed Alan Bean about training photos for my book, Apollo: The Panoramas. He said: We always practiced taking the photos on Earth, in training, that we were planning to take on the moon. At first we made a lot of mistakes in accurately pointing the camera mounted on our Remote Control Unit on our chest, and in making the correct exposure settings for down sun and cross sun photos. Our support team developed the film and Pete and I studied it before the next training session. |
