Does anyone know anything about the portable hospital kits that were deployed on the flight of Sigma 7, as described in the excellent book on the mission by Colin Burgess?

Were they just a Mercury thing as there appears to be no evidence that they were used in Gemini and Apollo?

If this is the case what specific arrangements were made to care for injured astronauts recovered in contingency areas?
