What was the cabin atmosphere used in the Mercury and Gemini capsules during manned ground tests? 100 percent oxygen? 16 psi?

It is my understanding cabin pressure was 16 psi... on Gemini at least.
While researching an article on Apollo 1, I recall reading about a similar electrical ground test fault on the Gemini 8 spacecraft. The fault however occurred in wiring outside the inner pressure vessel.
Had it occurred inside the cabin Armstrong may not have been the first to walk on the moon.

I believe the 16 psi was only used for leak checks. I believe the normal atmosphere was 100% O2 at 3 to 5 psi.

I thought the question was about ground tests.
As far as, was anybody inside of Mercury / Gemini for the ground tests? I don't know.
Remember the Apollo vacuum chamber had not been built yet.
This leads back to Grissom. Did anybody ever blow the hatch from the inside during training? Somebody must have before the flight of MR-4.
