On Gemini IX, Gene Cernan needed to make his way to the back of the spacecraft's adapter section to access the Astronaut Maneuvering Unit (AMU). Cernan was not provided with any kind of hand held maneuvering unit to get to the back of the spacecraft.

Were there any handrails along the side of the spacecraft for Cernan to use?

Two extendable handrails were installed on the adapter, one on the Equipment section and one on the Retro section, for Gemini 8-12. Also the black stripes applied to the adapters of Gemini 3-7 were replaced with patches of black Velcro in an attempt to offer more handholds.

All times are CT (US)
