For this anniversary of Eagle's landing, I posted the handwritten notes of the Grumman engineers on the Eagle's development leading up to the selection of LM-5 as the one to first land on the moon. I believe these have been unavailable until now. They document a continuous stream of electrical problems and worker exhaustion in the months prior to launch and serve as an intercom between the day and night shift. I also did some research and posted the Apollo XI Goodwill Disc (inscribed with letters from the world's leaders) that Buzz left on the moon, using the technologies being developed by the nascent semiconductor industry |

Thanks Steve for sharing this and in particular, scanning and posting the entire notebook as a PDF. Looking forward to reading through it.Steve's Flickr post also drew the attention of Boing Boing's Xeni Jardin, who highlighted the notebook and silicon disc in a post today. Great exposure for space artifacts — and hopefully a good kickstart to getting the community to start exploring the Grumman engineers' notes... |

Very cool indeed! It will go well with a copy of Gene Kranz's mission log! |

Thanks, Steve! Printed it yesterday (finally) and it is now spiral bound for easy reading. From what I've read so far, there were indeed a lot of electrical problems. Looking forward to reading more about how this amazing craft was built! |
