Does know one of you what John Young has in his right hand (hardware) when Young gets his feet tangled? To see in this video clip on time frame: 0.25.

He pulled out the cable on the Heat Flow Experiment. The experiment had previously failed to work on Apollo 15, due to the inability to bore holes deep enough for the probes.

They finally got it installed and working on Apollo 17.

But what has he now in his right hand, a bore? Or HFE electronics package or the mortar package?

According to the Lunar Surface Journal, Young had taken the mortar package from the top of the central ALSEP station when he caught the cable.

It is not correct that the Apollo 15 Heat Flow Experiment failed. The bore-holes were deep enough to allow some very significant results which proved to be consistent with the Apollo 17 results. See "Exploring the Moon" by David Harland (Praxis; 1999) Page 318.
