I stumbled over this at Youtube, it's some footage of the crew during the trip to the moon, anybody know if they filmed it for a broadcast to the families who'd watch it in mission control in Houston or anything?

It looks like it was filmed when they had some downtime... Too bad there's no sound!

I don't have the DVD set, but looking at the description on their website, this looks like some of what would be found on disc 1 of the Spacecraft Films Apollo 17 six-disc set.

Someone here will have that and can hopefully confirm it, and tell us if it has sound synced to it. I know Mark Gray of Spacecraft Films is a member here and may also see this thread.

Thanks, I'll have to check out the DVDs from Spacecraft Films then! In another video from the same user called Apollo 17 - lunar liftoff, you can see (at the end of the clip) Gene Cernan wearing his pressure suit and helmet, but his gloves are off. (I thought they had to use the suit in its complete form all the way until they'd docked with the CSM).

This footage is all on the Spacecraft Films DVD for Apollo 17. Obviously this wasn't filmed for broadcast to the families, as the 16mm magazines were developed only after return to earth.

The 16mm camera could not record sound, but on the DVD there is a soundtrack added from the onboard tapes.

All times are CT (US)
