There were four crew transfers during the joint activities on the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) mission. The NASA EP-109 pamphlet has these duration totals in hours and minutes: - Stafford in Soyuz (7:10)
- Brand in Soyuz (6:30)
- Slayton in Soyuz (1:35)
- Leonov in Apollo (5:43)
- Kubasov in Apollo (4:59)
Has anyone ever seen any in-flight photos of either Leonov or Kubasov in the Apollo command module? |

Good one! I just did a fifteen minute internet search and I couldn't come up with one photo of either of those guys inside the CM. Maybe someone else can. |

There were five hatches between the Apollo command module and the Soyuz descent vehicle. In addition to the CSM-110 (Apollo 14) docking probe and the CSM-113 (Apollo 16) main control panels, the reused flight hardware list for ASTP includes two CSM-flown hatches from CSM-104 (Apollo 9) and CSM-117 (Skylab 3). The press kit has this about the transfers:
Each Apollo crewman and each Soyuz crewman will visit the other spacecraft at least once during the two days of docked operations ... All transfers between spacecraft will be in "shirtsleeves". Crewmen will sleep in their own spacecraft. Docking module systems will be operated by an Apollo crewman, and two men will be in the docking module during a transfer operation. Spacecraft hatches will be operated by the crew of that spacecraft, and there is no provision for contingency Extra-Vehicular Activity transfers. For example, if the docking module were to fail in some mode while an Apollo crewman was aboard Soyuz and a Soyuz crewman aboard Apollo, entry and recovery would be flown with a mixed crew. That would have been interesting. |

The 1975 NASA film "The Mission of Apollo-Soyuz" has some brief shots of Leonov in the CM. |

Moving from the CM to the Soyuz descent vehicle: CM, hatch 1, tunnel 1, hatch 2, docking module, hatch 3, tunnel 2, hatch 4, Soyuz orbital module, hatch 5, Soyuz descent vehicle. |

Also from the press kit: Crew transfers have been planned so that there will always be at least one host crew member in each spacecraft, and that no more than three men are in Apollo and two men in Soyuz at any time and the respective spacecraft hatch to the docking module is closed. During the first crew transfer on July 17, Brand was in the CM and four men were in the Soyuz spacecraft. So I guess a contingency mixed crew re-entry would not have worked for that. |

Apparently there was some ASTP 16mm film footage of Stafford and Leonov in the command module. This ASTP onboard 16mm release includes "Stafford and Leonov in CM" in the scene description. Has anyone seen that 16mm footage? |

This ASTP film footage seems to match the scene description in the previous post. Stafford and Leonov can be seen in the command module. |
