The costs for the recovery of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo capsules were dependent of the Navy or NASA? NASA refund costs for recovery to Navy?

There is an information in NASA SP-4203 "On the Shoulders of Titans - A History of the Project Gemni" in Appendix G. According to this source the total Project Gemini recovery cost was USD 44,5 mil, out of which USD 11,9 mil was reimbursed by NASA to DOD. The rest was absorbed by DOD.

Similarly for the Project Mercury the NAVY recovery total cost was USD 24 mil, NASA reimbursed USD 8,9 mil (NASA SP-4201 "This New Ocean - A History of the Project Mercury" Appendix F).

So most probably the same scenario for Apollo as well, however, I don't have any figures.

All times are CT (US)
