When the command and service modules for Apollo 13 arrived at Kennedy Space Center from the manufacturer in June 1969, the spacecraft on its transporter had a banner that read "One-O-Nine Third In Line" with lots of signatures.

Some other Apollo spacecraft also had banners. Maybe they all did. Can you add to the list?

  • Apollo 1: "Apollo One"
  • Apollo 7: "Spacecraft 101 We Care Enough To Send The Very Best"
  • Apollo 8: "Jim, Rusty, Dave We Are Ready Are You?"
  • Apollo 9: "Good Luck Again Jim Dave And Rusty 104 Opens The Door"
  • Apollo 10: ?
  • Apollo 11: Spacecraft 107 - Apollo 11 a "Natural" for the "Big One"
  • Apollo 12: (see below)
  • Apollo 13: "One-O-Nine Third In Line"
  • Apollo 14: ?
  • Apollo 15: ?
  • Apollo 16: ?
  • Apollo 17: ?
  • Skylab 2: ?
  • Skylab 3: ?
  • Skylab 4: ?
  • Apollo-Soyuz: "From A To Z Apollo/Soyuz Last And The Best"

A few years back I did own an Apollo 12 spacecraft arrival banner, signed by hundreds of North American Rockwell workers, that read, "Spacecraft 108 - Ready for the Long Cruise."

Photo KSC-69P-37 is a side view of the Apollo 11 command and service modules being unloaded from the Super Guppy onto a transporter at the Cape Canaveral Skid Strip, but unfortunately you cannot see any banner from that angle.

When spacecraft 103 was shipped from Downey to KSC in August 1968, it was scheduled to fly on Saturn 503 with the McDivitt crew.

The spacecraft 101 banner mentioned above was on the Apollo 7 service module. The command module had a different banner that said "Moon Award, First Manned Flight, Astronaut Approved" on it.

The 2TV-1 spacecraft S/N 098 delivered to Houston for thermal-vacuum tests had this banner on it.

The command and service modules for Apollo 7 were delivered separately to KSC in 1968: the SM on May 17 and the CM on May 30. A flight carrying the CM to the Cape on May 29 had to return to Long Beach because of engine trouble.

If anyone has the June 6, 1968 issue of Spaceflight News, it may have a photo of the banner on the Apollo 7 command module. The article is "Command Module Arrives For Testing, Checkout At KSC" on page 1, with illustration.

Photo KSC-68P-288 shows the Apollo 8 command module 103 being unloaded from the Super Guppy at the Cape Canaveral Skid Strip. The resolution is not quite good enough to read the banner on the command module.

There was a sign on the LM-3 descent stage when it arrived at Cape Canaveral on June 9, 1968. It said "The Ascent Stage Is Something Else!!!"

The ascent stage arrived at the Cape on June 14.

Apollo 12 service module 108 had a "Spacecraft 108 Lunar Schooner" banner.

There is also this illustration for spacecraft 108.

CSM-119 was the backup CSM that would have been used to rescue the Skylab 4 crew had that been necessary.

When did CSM-119 arrive at the Cape?

Apollo 13 photo KSC-69-4124 is another view of the banner on CM-109 when the command and service modules arrived at the Cape.

Apparently there was another CM banner that read, "Jim/Rusty/Dave, We Are Ready for You!" as it was being loaded for transport to Florida by the Pregnant Guppy aircraft in 1968.

To answer an above question, the signed Apollo 12 CM-108 banner that I had was sold a few years ago by a space auction house.

Maybe that was the spacecraft 103 banner.

There is a scene listing of some 16mm film footage taken 8/12/68 at KSC that indicates the sign on CM-103 was "Jim, Rusty, Dave We Are Ready Are You?"

No banner can be seen on the Apollo 10 command module in this view of the CM and SM arriving at KSC.
Left: The Apollo 10 Command and Service Modules arrive at KSC. Right: First stage of the Saturn V for Apollo 10 arrives at KSC.

The signed banner for spacecraft 107 was:
Spacecraft 107 - Apollo 11
a "Natural" for the "Big One"

Love how we like to give things names and titles for no practical reason.
