In the latest issue of the online auto magazine Winding Road a writer uses the above phrase to describe a new Lexus automobile.

Space enthusiasts like us find it hard to believe anyone, let alone people who are paid for their words, could forget the name of the machine that boosted the Apollo missions to the moon but there you go. This is exactly the reason why our hobby is so important. The provenance of that piece of heat shield you bought, let alone the names of these magnificent inventions cannot be left to chance. It's up to us to remember these things and pass them along correctly.

Sorry to get all serious but this blew me away. Can anyone imagine forgetting the Saturn V? I've sent a note to the magazine.

I don't think he forgot.

He couldn't use Saturn, another car manufacturer, in a Lexus ad.

I bet his attitude was '...who cares if Atlas 5 is wrong, who'll know the difference...' he just REALLY wanted the powerful, sleek rocket image connected to the new Lexus.

It didn't matter to him that he was historically inaccurate; even if he was aware of this error.

Could the writer be referring to the Atlas V?

You could very well be right, Robert.

Us older guys would automatically think of Saturn as THE powerful, sleek rocket. Younger folks that didn't live through that period, would perhaps go to the Atlas 5 of today.

Good call.

Pardon me, by "us older guys," I was referring only to myself.
