I saw a photo of a Titan III with a Gemini capsule on it being launched in 1966. I'm sure this was a boilerplate, but can anybody tell me exactly the MOL program shut down? Also, was the MOL Gemini the same as the NASA Gemini? |

The capsule first flew, as Gemini-2 and was refurbished for the Titan-MOL test flight to test the heat shield with a hatch in it. ------------------ John Macco Vice President Space Unit Shady Side, Md. |

GT-2 was launched on 19 Jan 65 & re-launched (as stated) on 3 Nov 66. From "Gemini, Steps to the Moon" by David J. Shayler (pg. 375)- "As NASA's space station programme (Skylab) grew, so the MOL programme came under even more scrutiny as the cost of supporting the Vietnam War escalated and the use of unmanned reconnaissance satellites continued to evolve. After six years of planning and development, the MOL was cancelled in June 1969, and some of the hardware developed for the programme was incorporated in the development of what became NASA's Skylab space station." This book is a fantastic resource for all Gemini fans out there.[This message has been edited by DwightM (edited June 21, 2006).] |
