okay, so as I'm reading Moon Shot I have been surprised at how many times I have actually laughed out loud at some of the classic "Gotcha" Moments. Plus, the Apollo 12 gotcha film on The Real Space Cowboys DVD is hilarious(Dick..uhh, Gordon)Let's hear some opinions on what you think is the best Gotcha!, or at least your personal favorite. I could use some good laughs today! |

When you are done with that book read The Unbroken Chain by Guenther Wendt. It has many gotchas in it. Great book and now I know why so many people recommend it. Mike Myer Humboldt KS |

My favorite "Gotcha" moment was when I took happyproudthrilled to the local park, pretended to examine the "promise" ring I had given her, and swapped it for a diamond engagement ring. GOTCHA! :-) |

My favorite "gotcha" is the coiled rattlesnake (although dead and headless)that was placed under Gene Cernans's desk. You gotta have some redneck in you to appreciate that one. |

There are a lot of great ones, but Gene Cernan calling Guenter Wendt on the pad, pretending to be a flight surgeon ordering him off the pad because of a sniffle, is an absolute classic.Guenter's revenge is pretty darned good, too. Two reasons to pick up Guenter's book, "The Unbroken Chain". No, I don't get any royalties. But you'll LOVE this book! ------------------ Don |

I just got done reading my copy of "Apollo" by Murray and Cox, and it was every bit as good as many people have said. Rather unexpectedly, however, I also ran into a really great gotcha in the book.During the days of Mercury, the sims were much more primitive than what they evolved into later. According to the book, Chris Kraft's console always had a monitor with a live TV picture of the Redstone or Atlas rocket sitting on the pad, even though the rocket was not going to go anywhere. During one sim, a controller named John Hatcher somehow was able to make that monitor show a tape of a launch, timed for when the count hit T-0. At that moment, Kraft pushed a little lever that started the clocks, then saw the Redstone on his monitor launch. According to the story, Kraft turned to Gene Kranz, who was in on the joke, and yelled, "Look at that!" Kranz sat stonefaced, and Kraft again yelled, "Did you see that?" Evidently, the legend of this story grew. I'm surprised I hadn't heard it before. I laughed till I cried as I tried to read the passage to a friend at work. Imagine Chris Kraft thinking he'd accidentally launched a Redstone! Precious. I'll bet that never happened again! ------------------ Don |
