On June 10th Chris, my oldest nephew, graduated from Palo Alto High School. That night the graduation party was held aboard the USS Hornet. A few days later I said to Chris, “That was really wonderful that they held the party on the Apollo 11 recovery ship.”

“They did?” Chris asked.

“Well yes,” I replied. “The Hornet was the recovery ship for both Apollos 11 & 12.”

“It was?”

“Sure, didn’t they tell you that?”

“No they didn’t,” Chris said.

Chris is a good student. In the fall he is going to UC San Diego, an excellent school. I wonder how many students in his class realized the history of the ship they were on.
