Why not get Wally Schirra and Scott Carpenter on a Shuttle flight? Don't tell me they wouldn't like to go, and it would be one hell of a thing to see.

Have either of these gentlemen been approached and, if so, what was their reaction?

Is it possible Richard Branson will let them ride?

It's almost certain that Richard Branson would exchange a seat on a flight for a large amount of cash.

From Schirra's (Cyber) Space:
quote:
Today, I say if I were offered a flight like John Glenn [on the shuttle], I am not that old," chuckled Schirra, 82, who celebrated a birthday this past Saturday [March 12].

"Seriously, if I were to go on a flight today I would need three years to train, as I would want to command, not just ride as a passenger."

From his past commands he'd probably be up to the job.

I bet he'd LOVE to get his hands on the controls.

Living in Houston has provided the opportunity to meet many current and past astronauts. Walt Cunningham is very gracious with his time and I would be willing to bet that he would be up to the task of a shuttle flight. He appears to be in great physical shape and seems to still have the right stuff! Let's start a movement to get Walt on the shuttle! Let's face it, he should have flown another Apollo mission, maybe even to the moon.

You'd have to get by Dot first.

Jeez, I have any number of ex-wives who'd LOVE to see me blasted into Outer Space.

This is a "guy thing" and women don't really get it. It's like when we were young and did that "goofing" routine: hang around doing ridiculous stuff and hope a good-looking girl thinks it's cute.

Flying Outer Space missions is just a more advanced version.

I stand corrected.

According to Walt, Dot would be all for it.
