An interesting editorial in Friday's USA Today... http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/columnist/neuharth/2006-07-06-neuharth-space_x.htm I think his comment... "We won the race to the moon because President John F. Kennedy convinced Congress and the public that we can't be comfortable as No. 1 on Earth unless we also are No. 1 in space. No president since has understood that." has overlooked the contributions of Lyndon Johnson. Noah |

Noah, I have never been a fan of LBJ, but I think his contributions to the US space program were immeasurable. |

Without LBJ, we would have never have gotten close, he could have easily pull the plug like Brenzhvev did, which prevented the Russians going to the moon along with the death of KOROLEV, but of course LBJ liked all of the jobs that the program created in Texas. JFK at first was not very interested in the space program, but then after he realized the political capital that could be gained, he became a believer | |
