I've just acquired two flown (?) covers and I kindly request your professional advice on their authenticity having no COA.

None of them flew into space. |

Both have a stamp saying "bort" (aboard). Doesn't that mean they were flown? I do not know anything about these, but other onboard stamps also say "bort", so I wondered. |

Before and after the space flights the on-board postmarks and other stamps were used in Baikonur and Moscow on "souvenir covers". Flown covers for these missions have a pentagonal seal of Salyut-6 space station. Be aware that the seal of the station was faked on some souvenir covers. As for your two covers an expert could check whether the signatures are genuine. |

The autographs all look genuine. The Savinykh is a bit odd, but may just have been rushed. I have variants from him done in person. I thought the Mongolian cover might be genuinely flown because it has a Salyut 6 pentangle on it? |

The Salyut 6 pentangle with the words around was the on-board cancel of the last Salyut-6 residential crew. It was also used on Earth. |

I've been looking over your materials a bit. The envelopes, stamps and signatures, too. The envelopes are period. As for the stamps, I have reason to believe that everything was stamped here on Earth for commercial purposes. So you are not the first or the last person to figure this out and be a little depressed. I understand and I understand you. Unfortunately, as far as the signatures are concerned, and as far as I can compare, I have to say this. The signatures on the envelopes are imitations of the real ones. With the exception of cosmonaut Romanenko. The supply of autographs of Russian veterans is getting very limited at auctions and many fakes of various qualities are increasingly to be seen. If you don't believe me, I don't blame you, it's my opinion as a colleague. |
